Learn many of New Zealand's native trees by name - tawa, rimu, kawakawa, totara.
Interpretive panels assist with the understanding and enjoyment of a mature stand of kauri, marsh forest and associated vegetation.

On twilight listen to the bird song changed from day calls to night calls. Watch bats flying overhead feed on insects.
On night fall observe the nocturnal wildlife of the New Zealand forest habitat...a kiwi if you are lucky.

The Nature trail is an easy wander around a loop track beginning at the Puketi forest recreation area. It leads you through a beautiful Kauri forest, it provides a great experience for those wanting to learn more about New Zealand native plants and hear the history of the Puketi and the surrounding areas.

Your Knowledgeable Guide
Your forest walk guide, Ian Candy, has forty years living besides and tramping within New Zealand's Puketi forest. Ian grew up in the area and feels totally at home on every trail.
Ian shares his love of the forest with Bay of Islands holiday makers conveying a strong sense of conservation. The Candy's have operated a 140 hectare dairy/beef farm situated next to the Puketi Forest, 20 minutes from Kerikeri and 30 minutes from Paihia, Bay of Islands.
